a word
Yesterday at church the pastor talked about prayer and how when we ask for one thing, God has to do ten thousand things in order for that prayer to be answered. One example he used was for someone to ask for a word, so many people had to be in the right place at the right time but it was over a span of 50 years that could lead up to this one divine moment. For every little thing we ask for, God puts ten thousand things into motion. How incredible is that?!?! This is a perfect representation of God's love for us, He is willing to affect the lives of everyone to fulfill what one person asks. Now, that doesn't mean whatever is being asked will be received right away or even at all. I believe it is in our human nature to have some expectations as to what we want God to give us rather than completely trusting in what has been set into motion already. He wants us to remain faithful in Him regardless of what the timeline may be. Waiting is one of the hardest things to do and it can be where most people struggle in their faith. In the words of one of my professors, we live in a microwave society where we want everything as quick and convenient as possible rather than living in a crockpot world where we are patient and allow things to take their time to be better. Some things are better at a faster pace, and God will answer prayers in that time, but it is important to know that in those times of waiting He has something truly incredible in store even if it might not seem like it at first.
Today I sat down and prayed for a word (following the example from church yesterday). I couldn't find my devotional book so I went on my Bible app and looked at a devotional I had saved. It talked about using the truth to combat the lies that make their way into our lives. The piece of scripture with the devotional was John 6:31 where Jesus is talking to His disciples and tells them to abide in his word and if they know the truth it will set them free. I then proceeded to look up synonyms of abide to get a better idea of what Jesus meant; to obey, keep to, accept, acknowledge, etc. God really showed me that in order to find peace we need to know the truth so we can be set free from any bondage. He revealed to me that I need to abide in him consistently, to not put all of my focus and time and energy into any thing or any person but in Him alone. He is the only constant in my life and nothing else can fill my life with peace or truth, only God can. Referring back to the pastors message yesterday, I thought more about the 10,000 things God had to do. He did so much so that Pastor Tim was the one speaking at church yesterday, that I went to a different church than we usually go to at home, so I could hear that message, so I then come before God and ask for a word, and then I finally listen to what God has been trying to tell me for so long. It is amazing how God works in mysterious ways, it may seem like a coincidence but it is what He had planned all along. I think rather than being thankful for the one thing God gifted us with, we should be thankful for the ten thousand things he has done to fulfill his promise to us.
My prayer is to abide in Christ and trust that he will keep His promises to us if we choose to keep His word.
