A new chapter...
I have almost completed my first semester of college and I can say without a doubt that it has been the greatest experiences I have had so far in my life. (Granted I still have another 3 and a half years or so left). God has been so good to me by showing me that I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I know that the college decision making process is different for anyone but for those who are in the process of trying to find the right college, you will know when you're at the right school. It's cliche that everyone will say "oh you'll just know when you are on campus". Yes, I do agree with that; however, there are so many good schools out there and it's okay to be picky about where you want to go. For example, for me I knew I wanted to go to a smaller Christian school in the south that had a strong Athletic Training program and God opened the doors for me to be at my dream school. For me the biggest indicator that I was meant to be where I am is that whenever I stepped foot on campus there was a sigh of relief, it felt like home and now it is. Even while at home for Thanksgiving break I was so anxious to be back on campus after the first few days. I have met some of the most wonderful people and have made numerous memories already. I can't help but thank God for all that he has blessed me with the last 4 months.
I believe that when you are in college you have two options, go to school and think that independence means doing whatever the heck you want, or take hold of the experience you get to have and pursue God on a daily basis and strive to grow in your relationship with him. To me, the independence I knew I would have helped motivate me to really intentionally pursue God. By doing so it has made my relationship with the Lord so much stronger and I have learned so much about His goodness and love for me. One of the biggest pieces of advice I could give to anyone either in college or about to go to college is make finding a church a priority. Find a place where you look forward to go every Sunday, a place where you want to get involved and desire to grow in fellowship. Church hopping is a good thing to do, I visited three different churches before finding the one I attend now. Just like finding a school, the Lord will show you where you are meant to be. Take advantage of the time you have to grow while on your own. The second piece of advice I want to give is to surround yourself with people that will encourage and uplift you in your faith. Draw close to them, friendships built on faith are the strongest just like any other kind of relationship.
Ultimately, college is wonderful and if you are one about to start the next chapter in your life remember that the Lord is faithful and to remain grounded in Him. :)
